TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE AND PURCHASE
VAT
Paper books do not attract VAT but unfortunately due to European Union taxes we must charge all European customers VAT at 17.5% on e-Books . Ongoing discussions are taking place in the EU to get this changed but for now we must do as the law says. If you live outside the EU there are no taxes to pay.
My computer crashed and I lost my eBook. How do I get another?
Simply email us your proof of purchase and we'll send you the download link. But it's best to avoid this problem in the first place so be sure to keep a copy of your eBook and proof of purchase on a CD or other storage medium along with your proof of purchase email message text.
If you have lost your backup CD, give us as much information as possible, including:
- Date of purchase
- Full name and address
- Email address used for the order
- Any other useful information that will help us to track it down
We will give you 24 hours from date of purchase to inform us that you require a replacement.
I've ordered the wrong eBook by mistake
We are sorry, but if you have ordered the wrong ebook there is nothing we can do.
How secure is the purchase?
Shopping from everymanchess.com is as safe as purchasing by card in a regular department store. Everyman uses Barclays EPDQ payment gateway.
Barclaycard ePDQ uses its own SSL, which means EverrymanChess never holds your payment card details. This is only held by Barclays, who have a high reputation for security. The ePDQ system has great security because of the credit checking it offers. It checks the card for 3 'green-lights', and only then is your card debited. The 3 'green-lights' are:
- The card is authorised to take payment (ie. not reported lost or stolen, there is money on the account)
- The CVV2 number on the reverse of the card is correct
- The cardholders address is correct as given.
Protecting your Card Details
We work with Barclaysbank, one of the largest banks in the world using their online fulfillment system EPDQ to process your credit and debit card payments and protect your card details. All your card details are encrypted (converted into secure code) to the maximum strength supported by your browser.
Personal Information
Everymanchess.com’s secure server software ensures that all of your personal information, such as your name and address, is also encrypted before it is transmitted over the internet. This means that it cannot be read by anyone except you and staff authorised by Everyman Chess.
Covering your liability
Most UK banks cover the charges resulting from unauthorized use of your card, but some banks may hold you responsible for an initial excess of £30 Sterling . Should your bank charge you for unauthorized use of your card, Everyman Chess will cover your liability up to £30 Sterling as long as the unauthorized use of your card resulted through no fault of your own and from purchases made on Everymanchess.com while using the secure server.
How do I pay?
You can only pay by credit card or debit card on the date on which we accept your order. We’ve listed the credit cards and debit cards that we will accept are those listed on this Website on the date on which we accept your order.
Can I give my ebook to someone else:

- the eBook isn’t distributed or transmitted over any network or communication line
- the eBook is used for personal entertainment only
- the eBook is not copied or modified in any way
