I play multiple openings as Black against 1.d4, one of which is the Tarrasch (others mainly being the Dutch and the Semi-Slav). I can tell you that the Aagaard book is also the latest I've seen.
It's effective in terms of learning the basic strategy, but some of the theory has changed since then. I'm sure the recent Bf4 ideas in the main line (as opposed to Be3) has a lot to be updated.
In response to the admin's message, it is a narrower opening than say, the Orthodox QGD, but there is one on the accelerated dragon (AD throughout the rest of the message), which is pretty narrow. The AD has what? Maroczy bind, "main line" (i.e. Nc3 instead of c4), and the ever popular "Weekend Variation" (which ought to be called the "Weakened Variation", as White should NEVER play this).
What does the Tarrasch have? About the same number of lines. 9.Bg5 (with 9...cxd4 and 9...c4), 9.dxc5, the Swedish (6...c4) variation, the Semi-Tarrasch, and a few offbeat lines.
What's my opinion? The Tarrasch needs an update badly if you ask me. What should be published is up to Everyman:
1) One possibility is a Reportoire-based book for Black (like Aagard's book), but make sure both 9...c4 and 9...cxd4 are included.
2) If you go with the "Starting Out" approach, I'd say then it kinda needs to be objective as "Starting Out" books aren't meant to be reportoire books, but rather books that introduce an opening in General. Therefore, since White is involved here, you'd need to include a chapter on that stupid gambit with 4...cxd4 (I forgot the name of it, but the answer for White is simple, play the Queen Check first on a4 before you take on d4). Still, with a Starting Out book, gotta show why doing it (playing Qa4+ first) is really bad for Black, and NOT doing it makes White's life a lot more difficult.
